Learning is distinguished from mere credentialism. A person's education can be a mixture of informal or formal, home study or institutional, distance learning or residential, self-paced or regimented, and non-degree credit or degree credit. Whether the student is an autodidact or a time-server, the criteria for evaluating a course of study at any level from undergraduate to post-graduate include (1) the curricula and syllabi, (2) the prerequisites, (3) the duration, (4) the costs, and (5) the benefits. Different individuals with the same career goals may well choose a different educational mix. Whatever works best for each learner is recommended.
